Golden Gate
National Park was proclaimed in 1963 to
conserve this unique landscape. A vast cliff face
catches the rays of the setting sun while various animals, including
grey rebok, blesbok, eland, oribi, Burchell's zebra,
jackal and baboons graze below. Birds include lammergeyers,
(with wing-spans of
nearly 3 meters) black eagles, jackal buzzards,
blue cranes and secretary birds. |

Basotho Cultural Village
features the
Customs, traditions and culture of the South Sotho
people, situated
on the road between Qwaqwa and Golden Gate National Park,
the village incorporates a museum, amphitheatre and
tea garden. |

Clarens,
is a picturesque country village filled with arts galleries, shops, restaurants
and pubs. Golfing at Clarens
Golf Club, horse riding and Fly Fishing can be done President Paul Kruger died in
a town of the same name in
Switzerland in 1904. The village is surrounded with
massive sandstone
hills is close to the battlefield where five men of
Paul Kruger's Transvaal Commando were killed 1886. |

Rustler's Valley
features is
a hidden canyon where stolen cattle were concealed until
they could be smuggled away for sale, hence the name. You can wander into the valley, walk up onto
sandstone escarpments, climb imposing Nyakalesoba (the
'witchdoctor's eye'). The Easter music festival here is a
highlight of the year and were close enough for you to escape the
mayhem yet be part of it. |

Surrender Hill South African Anglo Boer War battle
field (30 July 1900) Lord Roberts drove Boers into
the Brand Water Basin between Clarens, Fouriesburg and
Lesotho. After the Boers had regrouped, traffic jam in the narrow
exits from the basin prevented most of them from leaving. 4300
Boers surrendered and their guns were burnt. |

Ficksburg is
situated on the bank of the Caledon River, the
border between Lesotho and the Free State. Founded in 1867
the town has some fine old sandstone buildings including the town
hall, the NG Kerk and the post office. It is the centre of the
Free State's cherry industry and the Cherry Trail is a tourist
route around the district. There are several orchards to visit,
art and craft shops and hiking trails. |

Rose
Hip Factory is
located on the farm where a variety of organic oils and
teas are manufactured. Purchases can be made at little coffee shop called Merlins cove situated on the premises,where you can buy Healing Oils and can learn about the
benefits of different products and purchase rose hip tea, rose hip
oil, pumpkinseed oil, pelargonium tincture, as well as various
natural products that will make you look younger and feel better. |

This quant little coffee shop is situated on the farm near the chalets and are open for breakfasts and lunchess it overooks the Lesotho mountains, and for a few hours you feel hidden from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The art work makes you feel like you have entered another mystic realm and just maybe Merlin is hiding nearby |
